Intra BV is located in a village with a rich history. On this page we would like to tell you more about this history and who exactly you are going to be photographed as.
Oòtjie & Groòf
Oòtjie & Groòf are the ‘Spakenburgse’ terms/names for grandfather and grandmother. Oòtjie means grandma and Groòf means grandpa. Within the village of Bunschoten-Spakenburg these are well known terms and every ‘Spakenburger’ has fond memories of his or her Oòtjie & Groòf.
Nowadays, Oòtjie & Groòf can be recognized by their clothing, as they still wear the traditional Spakenburg costume every day. The Spakenburg costume is seen and worn less and less, because the new generations have switched to the modern wear of clothing. If you walk around our historic center there is a good chance you will see an Oòtjie & Groòf in his/her costume. This costume used to be there not only for adults, but also for children. The children’s costume is still worn by a small group of children and only on special Spakenburg holidays, such as the ‘Visserijdag’ (Fisherman’s Day).
Bunschoten-Spakenburg
As already briefly mentioned, Oòtjie & Groòf come from Bunschoten-Spakenburg. Bunschoten-Spakenburg is a small village located nearby the water. Before the arrival of the province of Flevoland, Bunschoten-Spakenburg was situated at the old ‘Zuyderzee’. Nowadays Bunschoten-Spakenburg lies at the ‘Eemmeer’ and is more popularly known as ‘Het Kleine Zeetje’ (The Little Sea). Bunschoten-Spakenburg is part of the municipality of Bunschoten, which also includes the small neighboring village of Eemdijk.
In the times when Bunschoten-Spakenburg was still at the Zuyderzee, the village consisted of two parts: Bunschoten and Spakenburg. Hereby Spakenburg was the part which was situated at the water and at the harbor. Therefore, Spakenburg was the fishermen’s part. Bunschoten, on the other hand, was a little further away from Spakenburg and was located among the meadows. Bunschoten was therefore the farmers part. Due to the growth of both villages over the years, they have grown together and as a result the village has now become one; Bunschoten-Spakenburg.
The Spakenburg fishermen went out with their ‘Botters’ to catch fish on the Zuyderzee. These boats are still used every day for pleasure boating and are moored in the historic harbor of Bunschoten-Spakenburg. The repair of the ‘botters’ is still carried out at the same place where they were built decades ago: ‘The Helling’. ‘The Helling’ is also located in the harbor of Bunschoten-Spakenburg and is still in operation.
Intra BV and Bunschoten-Spakenburg
As long as Intra BV exists, for almost 20 years now, it is located in the municipality of Bunschoten. Intra BV once started in the small village of Eemdijk and then moved to the Zuidwenk 78H in Bunschoten-Spakenburg. So Intra BV has always been connected with Bunschoten-Spakenburg and this is characterized by the annual Herring Party, the close connection with the soccer and the freshly smoked salmon sides that we sometimes bring. With pride we are still located in Bunschoten-Spakenburg with our Oòtjie & Groòf close by.
